Start the Weekend Off Right

Kick off the trip with a classic Nordic spa experience. We chose Sibéria Station Spa, though Québec City has several great options (see our post for the full list and map). After a few hours in the car, the thermal circuit is the perfect way to transition into vacation mode. The onsite bistro serves warm soups and hot drinks, so there’s no need to stop for food beforehand. Take your time, unwind, and reconnect with yourself.

Dinner

Once you’re fully relaxed, it’s time to indulge. Just minutes away is Batifol, a 35‑year veteran of the Québec dining scene. Don’t let the dated exterior fool you — inside, you’ll step into a modern, welcoming space serving updated classics. They offer recurring specials Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, but Friday’s filet mignon is the real standout. The quality and service truly impress.

And do not skip the wine list. We were delighted to find a 2016 Château La Croix Bonnelle from Saint‑Émilion — a beautiful pairing with the filet mignon.

A Full Day of Exploring

Brunch

Start your day with a hearty brunch to fuel your adventures. Québec City offers brunch all over town on weekends, but we opted for a long‑time classic: Cochon Dingue, serving locals and visitors since 1979. Located on Rue Champlain, it’s the perfect jumping‑off point for discovering Old Québec. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the breakfast poutine for a fun twist on a local staple.

Funicular → Chateau

Save your legs the climb: the funicular is only steps from the restaurant. Originally opened in 1879 and electrified in 1907, it offers a quick $6.00 ride with a beautiful view of the city. At the top, you’ll be greeted by one of Québec’s most iconic sights — Le Château Frontenac. Known as the most photographed hotel in the world, it’s easy to see why.

Once you’ve captured your photos, the Château is also the perfect spot to warm up and enjoy a drink with an unbeatable view. Their wine list is more like a book than a menu, and we were pleasantly surprised to find a 2013 Tokaj Aszú — an unexpected gem and a memorable way to savor the moment.

Dinner

Québec City is packed with exceptional restaurants, and the Michelin Guide is a great place to explore options. We chose the charming Lapin Sauté, for convenience and ambience although it is not on the Michelin list. If you’re longing for a storybook cottage atmosphere with European flair, this is the place. Rabbit isn’t a common feature on many menus, so it’s worth trying here.
